2015 NFL Draft Matchmaker: Jameis Winston

Somebody will pull the trigger on Jameis Winston in the 2015 NFL draft.  The question is who will, or rather who should?

From a pure accomplishment perspective, Winston has a ton going for him.  He’s already a Heisman trophy winner and led Florida State to a national championship in 2013.  His team remains undefeated and in line to make the inaugural college football playoffs for a shot at a second one.  Physically he has every tool in the cupboard from the big body to the mobility, strong arm, good vision and reflexes.

Where he is getting himself killed in the draft community is his problems off the field.  Whether it’s shoplifting crab legs from a grocery store or coming under investigation for sexual assault and points shaving, it’s clear the young man is either reckless, stupid, or just plain bad.  Nobody doubts his ability during games but it takes more than that to become the face of a franchise as a professional quarterback.  So with all that in mind, where would Winston be served best to end up?

St. Louis Rams

Corteland Finnegan.  Albert Haynesworth.  These are just a couple of the unique personalities St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has directed to Pro Bowls in the past.  He’s also not a stranger to developing immature, black quarterbacks either.  He helped Steve McNair become an MVP and somehow helped Vince Young reach two Pro Bowls and win Rookie of the Year.  A talent and personality like Jameis Winston would be nothing new to him.

Throw in the fact that the Rams will almost certainly be seeking a quarterback early in the 2015 NFL draft and this is a match made in heaven.
