Several surprises have pockmarked the 2014 NFL season at the quarterback position.  So who are the current top 10 names of the year so far?

#10 – Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks

Marshawn Lynch remains the focal point of the Seattle Seahawks offense, but that overshadows how good Russell Wilson is.  Never mind the lack of numbers.  It’s not like the third-year quarterback has the best receivers or reliable pass protection.  Wilson finds a way to make plays, whether it be with his arm or his legs.  His 14-to-3 touchdown to turnover ratio also illustrates how much he understands the game and how the Seahawks win with defense.  More than a few teams would kill to have him.

#9 – Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions

It would seem less is more from Matthew Stafford that has resulted in more winning for the Detroit Lions.  No longer is he trying to put up a ridiculous amount of yards but instead is trying to manage games better by balancing the offense and leaning on the teams’ #1 defense.  It hasn’t always been pretty but Stafford has the team 6-2 and done the bulk of that without Calvin Johnson.

#8 – Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers

His white hot start to the NFL season has certainly cooled but Philip Rivers is not the main problem that ills the San Diego Chargers.  They have a list of issues to sort out.  It won’t erase the fact he’s still on pace to reach his sixth Pro Bowl with 2,351 yards, 20 touchdowns and just seven turnovers for a 102.6 quarterback rating.
