It’s hard not to be incredibly impressed watching West Virginia star receiver Kevin White, who is having himself a true breakout season as a senior for the Mountaineers. Already in seven games, he’s caught 69 passes for 1020 yards and seven touchdowns. All of those numbers are blowing his stats from last season out of the water, but White is a completely different player.

This might sound absolutely crazy, but when I watch White play, I see a combination of two players. I don’t know if he will post the same numbers athletically, but White reminds me of Larry Fitzgerald and Julio Jones.

I know, I know — those are two of the best wide receiver prospects to come along in recent memory, but you tell me if I’m crazy or not.

It could be the fact that White wears number 11, or it could be the fact that he has long dreadlocks. However, I can’t discount the fact that when he plays, the way he uses his body, runs after the catch, and the way he can burn people downfield with speed really reminds me of a Fitzgerald/Jones combination.

When Fitzgerald was coming out of Pitt, he was one of the most physically dominant receivers in college football that we had ever seen. I don’t know that White is on par with that, and I’m also not sure he’ll be a top five pick, but when he is running intermediate routes in the games of his I’ve watched, I see the strong hands that Larry Fitzgerald has.

It’s ironic these are the two players I’ve seen in White, because when asked by NFL Draft Scout what players in the NFL he models his game after, this is what he said.

"“There are a few guys I like a lot. Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall. A few I really like to watch.”"

I’m not saying, I’m just saying…

White is rapidly ascending on draft boards. As one scout put it in the aforementioned article from NFL Draft Scout, he’s making it look ‘easy’. White is having no problems with any defenders, essentially getting 10 catches per game and scoring once. I think he could be scoring even more, but the rest of the season will dictate that.

I think he’s got a chance to be the top receiver on some draft boards this year.
