We’re now through five weeks of the college football season, and through five weeks it’s apparent that Georgia running back Todd Gurley is not only the best player right now in college football, he appears to be a lock top 10 pick in next year’s draft if he wants to leave school early.

In four games, Gurley’s worst game came last week against Troy when he rushed for a pedestrian 73 yards on six carries, averaging 12.2 yards per carry. The bum couldn’t even muster up a touchdown among the 66 points the Bulldogs scored in that game.

Note the sarcasm.

On Saturday against Tennessee, Gurley had arguably his best game of the season. Statistically, he finished with 208 yards on a game-high 28 carries with two touchdowns, and also caught four passes for another 30 yards.

I said it before the season and I’ll say it again…As a whole package, this is the best running back prospect we’ll have seen since Adrian Peterson. Gurley runs with such good vision, balance, power, speed, and he makes an impact on third downs. When you watch him play, his strength is such a problem for defenders trying to take him down. His agility for a 6’1″ 230 pound back is remarkable.

NFL scouts know that the game today is all about passing the football, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want balance or the opportunity to have a running back that can take over a game, and Gurley is that guy.

There hasn’t been a back worthy of using a top 10 pick on over the last few years. Trent Richardson may have scared GMs off from taking even a guy like Gurley that high. But this kid is a special talent, and we saw in a career performance on Saturday just what he is capable of, and we’re seeing it all come together this year for the Heisman candidate.

Gurley is already over 600 yards rushing and six touchdowns through just four games, averaging almost nine yards per carry. He never goes down on first contact, and is the type of player that can literally carry your team to victory. When I watch Gurley, I see a top 1o pick, no doubt about it.
