Report: Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts is OUT Against Eagles

The Jaguars will be without WR Cecil Shorts on Sunday against the Eagles, according to Vito Stellino of Jacksonville.com:

This news doesn’t come as a surprise after Shorts wasn’t able to practice this week in preparation for the team’s opener against Philadelphia. The Eagles are set up with Nick Foles and his weapons to score a potentially huge amount of points, so this loss will certainly hurt the Jaguars in more ways than one.

Shorts has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him on the sidelines and uncertain for much of the week. The Jaguars had the receiver listed as the starter on the depth chart across from Marqise Lee, the rookie from USC.

Jacksonville isn’t playing Blake Bortles, but they will have to suit up several rookie receivers to fill the void of Shorts. Lee, Allen Robinson, and Allen Hurns will have to carry much of the load. With an inexperienced receiving corps and an anything but certain Chad Henne under center, it’s safe to say the running game will have a big impact on the road.

Look for Toby Gerhart to have a big game in the Jaguars backfield. Gerhart is starting his Jacksonville career with a lot of pressure – can he help this offense keep up with Foles and the explosive Chip Kelly offensive scheme? Without Shorts in the passing game, it appears he might have to be a workhorse…Fantasy Football sleeper alert!
