Unlike Jameis Winston, Oregon Ducks star QB Marcus Mariota looked as though in midseason form. Mariota was effective, efficient, and dominant with only 20 pass attempts, racking up 267 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 46 yards on the ground and a score. Mariota is my current favorite to be the number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and he did nothing to change that on Saturday. He looks like a veteran college quarterback ready for prime time. We’ll see how he does against better competition obviously throughout the year, but this was a great start for him.
Speaking of Oregon, there’s a new running back who is making an impression, and it’s junior Byron Marshall. Marshall finished his first Saturday of work with 90 rushing yards on only 8 carries as well as 8 catches for 138 yards and two more scores. Little do many know that he finished last season at Oregon with over 1,000 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns, and now will be a featured player in the offense with some other players having moved on to the NFL. He and Mariota should be an explosive duo this season.
