2014 NFL Draft Grade: Oakland Raiders Select Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State

With the 36th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders have selected Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State.

We all knew the Raiders would at some point pick a quarterback, but they did the right thing by passing in the first round, getting a pass rusher in Khalil Mack and supplementing that by getting Carr here in the 2nd round, where he is a phenomenal value.

The Raiders will likely start the season with Matt Schaub at QB, but I have no doubt that Carr could be the starter by season’s end. He has one of the strongest arms in the draft, and reminded me a lot of Jay Cutler when I watched him play.

Grade: A

This is another great value for the Raiders in this draft, two picks they desperately needed to keep this franchise afloat even at this point.

Hell to the yes. Great draft so far. I’m stoked!!!

Only the future will tell if these picks were good ones, but if you would had told me before the draft started that the Raiders would had gotten Mack and Carr without giving up any additional draft picks, I would say, you smocking crack!
