2014 Draft Grade: New Orleans Saints Select Stanley Jean-Baptiste

The New Orleans Saints selected cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste with the 58th pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Scheme Fit

Seattle is now the benchmark to measure against in the NFL and the New Orleans Saints know that after losing to them twice last season.  The trademark of the Seahawks is their long defensive backs like Richard Sherman.  Stanley Jean-Baptiste is built in that mold at 6’3″ with good athleticism and ball skills.  Inexperienced at his job and slightly stiff but good upside.

My Reaction

They needed a corner after the depth was exposed last season and Jean-Baptiste is a solid fit for the system New Orleans Saints coach Rob Ryan has built.  I don’t know if he was the best long corner on the board but everything about the pick seems solid.

Grade:  B
