2014 Draft Grade: Detroit Lions Select Kyle Van Noy

The Detroit Lions selected linebacker Kyle Van Noy with the 40th pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Scheme Fit

Every coach likes a player that can do everything well and Kyle Van Noy is that type of linebacker coming out of BYU.  He’s not the best pass rusher, coverage guy or tackler but he can do all of those things.  He has lots of speed, good size and elite level instincts that should fit right in with that Detroit Lions front seven.

My Reaction

I like this pick.  Van Noy is a really good player who always seems to make a big play whether it’s intercepting a ball or sacking the quarterback.  I don’t yet know if he can make the transition to a 4-3 system like Detroit, but he definitely has the athleticism and the know-how to make it happen.

Grade:  A-
