2014 NFL Draft Grade: San Diego Chargers Select

With the 25th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers selected Jason Verrett, CB, TCU.

The Chargers needed to upgrade the CB position in this year’s draft, and while there were a ton of options they wound up taking a guy who was slightly underrated because of size in Verrett.

This is a player who is just a hair under 5’10” with excellent playmaking skills and the ability to play both inside as a nickel and on the outside. After being burned for much of the 2014 season, the Chargers knew that this offseason they’d have to overhaul the defensive backfield and getting Verrett here in the first round is a pretty good value.

He will hopefully help the Chargers create more turnovers and give them a physical presence to cover slot receivers.

Grade: B+
