2014 NFL Draft Grade: Minnesota Vikings Select Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA

With the 9th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA.

The Vikings moved down one spot with the Cleveland Browns at this slot and acquired an extra fifth round pick in the process while still getting their guy in Barr.

Barr is a good fit for a team that needs to upgrade its pass rush in a bad way. With Jared Allen off to Chicago, the Vikings knew they had to invest in the front seven to rebuild the defense this offseason and Barr is a huge piece of that along with free agent addition Linval Joseph.

Grade: B+

This is a really solid, not spectacular pick. I’m excited to see how the Vikings and new head coach Mike Zimmer move Barr around the formation defensively. He made a ton of plays in college behind the line of scrimmage, and while he’s still raw I think he’s going to a great situation in Minnesota with Zimmer.
