2014 NFL Draft Grade: Kansas City Chiefs Select Dee Ford

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Dee Ford with the 23rd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

OVERALL GRADE

It’s early, but I give this pick a C. The Chiefs are such an interesting team due to the fact that they are unpredictable on offense. This helped the defense, but I just don’t see this selection fill a huge need.

WHY THIS PICK MIGHT WORK

Ford can rush the passer, so I expect the team’s sack numbers to go up in a big way. He’s an athletic presence on the outside, and I think the coaching staff is going to appreciate what Ford can bring to the defensive front.

WHY THIS PICK COULD BE A BUST

Ford wasn’t rated as a first round pick for me. I don’t think Ford should have been taken this high, but clearly the Chiefs thought otherwise. In my opinion, he has huge bust potential.

SURPRISE OR EXPECTED?

We’ll let you the fan decide here. Let us know in the comment section. I think this is a pick to watch as we move along in the draft because Andy Reid’s team can do some crazy things on both sides of the ball. I’m wondering if they can make it back to the playoffs.
