2014 Draft Grade: Houston Texans Select Jadeveon Clowney

The Houston Texans selected defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the 1st pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Scheme Fit

Jadeveon Clowney was heralded for months as the most talented prospect in the entire draft.  He’s a pure pass rusher with a physical ceiling rivaled by few.  Big, strong, fast and athletic for his size.  When the motor runs hot he is absolutely unstoppable.  As far as the Houston Texans, he should be able to slide right in at outside linebacker and primarily be an edge rusher.

My Reaction

I’m not the least bit surprised.  Clowney is an athletic specimen.  How can you not put a player like that across from J.J. Watt?  It’s really not too hard of pick when you really think about it.  That pass rush tandem should wreck havoc across the AFC and the life of Andrew Luck is about to change.  Romeo Crennel is a happy man and the Texans are now a quarterback away from getting back into contention.

Grade:  A
