Miami Dolphins Team Needs and Offseason Headquarters Page

The Miami Dolphins needed only to beat the New York Jets or Buffalo Bills in the last two weeks of the season to lock down a playoff spot in 2013, and they couldn’t make it happen. They seemed to make some strides from what we’d seen in 2012, Ryan Tannehill’s first with the team, but they were absolutely crushed in those two games to end the season.

The Dolphins got rid of some major distractions that could have played a part in last season’s collapse, letting Richie Incognito go and trading Jonathan Martin to the 49ers. They addressed the hole at OT in a huge way by being one of the first teams to agree to terms with a 2014 unrestricted free agent, signing Branden Albert to a big money deal.

Dolphins Top Team Needs

1. Offensive Tackle

Signing Branden Albert addressed the Dolphins’ top need at left tackle. Now they need a right tackle.

2. Offensive Guard

The Dolphins have Dallas Thomas waiting in the wings, and they signed Shelley Smith from the Rams. This need is pretty well addressed unless they feel like they need more competition.

3. Defensive Line

Paul Soliai is gone, and the Dolphins signed Earl Mitchell, but if the right player comes along, I don’t know if they’d pass on him. This is an area to upgrade.

4. Linebacker

5. Tight End

6. Receiver

The article addresses the needs for the Dolphins. All of us who get involved during the off season and take time to analyze and write posts or comments on posts, have as a common goal, to see improvement come to our favorite team. Some of us hit the mark, some miss it by a mile. Needs and the way the draft order works out in the end is very dynamic and involves many moving parts and components… Who’s gong to be there when our turn comes up? Do we prioritize another position of need if our choice is no longer there or do we stay bullishly with that position in mind? Do we go BPA or BPA for any position of need? What ranking is the most accurate since they vary in some cases quite a bit?
I have the Dolphins trading down at some point (provided there’s not a huge drop off in talent), but that’s still premature. The way I have it now is a trading down and getting either an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd, but what if Lewan drops to 19, then trading down doesn’t make sense… still early. 1-trade down. 2- JaWuan James & Jaylen Watkins 3-Jack Mewhort. 4 -Christian Jones. This is again premature. Those who like CJ Mosely in the first… I like that too. It’s too early to tell

Guard IMO was not addressed… Shelly Smith is a back-up G at best… I believe that’s the only Guard we signed… Dallas Thomas was a disappointment… Garner is a versatile back-up along with Brenner… Other then T, the Phins will also grab a G in the draft.. Or best case, grab T/G Zach Martin in the 1st round and hopefully snag T Moses in the 2nd round.. Doubling up on RT with Martin fighting it out with Moses for that RT.. The loser of that battle will move to Guard.. In which Martin can start day 1 at guard and if Moses struggles, Martin will move to RT.. That would be the best case scenario…
