Florida State took care of Duke 45-7. Auburn took care of Missouri 59-42. The only team on Championship Saturday that really struck out was Ohio State, which dropped the Big Ten title game to the Michigan State Spartans, costing them a shot at the national title.

Barring the unexpected, it will be white hot Auburn, a one-loss team out of the SEC playing against Florida State, the most dominant team in college football in decades.

This is an incredibly intriguing matchup. Both teams are known for their strong running game, but Florida State in my mind has a clear edge defensively. It will be a matchup that is picked apart relentlessly over the next month.

In the meantime, it’s also likely that Florida State QB Jameis Winston has done enough to win himself a Heisman Trophy, though he will definitely have some competition.

I think a lot of people thought Ohio State had a really good chance of losing this game. They came really close to losing against Michigan a week ago, and Michigan State’s defense combined with a breakout game from MSU QB Connor Cook was simply too much for Urban Meyer’s team to handle.

Ohio State hadn’t lost a game since the 2011 season, which is stunning, but Michigan State is going to the Rose Bowl to play Stanford, and we’ll see Florida State taking on Auburn for a National Title.
