I think it’s safe to say now after six games this season that Florida State freshman quarterback Jameis Winston is for real.

If it wasn’t safe after the first five games, it sure is now. Winston and the Seminoles went into Clemson’s house and absolutely shredded them. They beat down the third ranked team in the country as if they deserved to be an unranked non-conference cupcake opponent to the tune of 51-14.

We all know that Florida State has done a phenomenal job the last few seasons of building their program through elite level recruiting, and getting a blue chip prospect at quarterback has been the biggest difference. Jameis Winston is already one of the team’s top leaders even as a redshirt freshman, and he’s taking everything in stride but looking like a veteran at the same time.

Winston is starting to generate Andrew Luck’s kind of hype, the hype that made Luck one of the most coveted NFL prospects as a redshirt freshman and then all the way through his junior season.

I don’t have a clue when Winston will leave school if it will be after the 2014/15 season of if it will be two years from now, but whenever he comes out, the trajectory he is on right now seems to indicate he is going to be a number one overall draft pick.

Winston is so far along in his development physically, mentally, and obviously that development has translated to great success on the field. Sure, he’s playing with a star-studded cast at Florida State that is oozing speed and depth, but Winston has been a major difference maker and is a guy who clearly has the swagger of a number one pick.

In six games this season, Winston has completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 1,885 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Clemson was really the first big test of the season for Winston and the ‘Noles, but they passed the test with flying colors and are now on to the next, which will probably be a November 2nd date against the Miami Hurricanes.

FSU is back in a big way, and you have to think that Jameis Winston gives this team a better than decent chance of going to the National Championship game as well as being a Heisman candidate this year and a future first overall pick.

Needless to say, the hype is big and the future is bright for Jameis Winston.
