Quarterback — Colin Kaepernick (25)
Backup Options — Colt McCoy (26); Scott Tolzien (25); B.J. Daniels (23)
Colin Kaepernick is a budding young star in the NFL heading into this third season in the league. He didn’t play much at all as a rookie, but came in to replace an injured Alex Smith in 2012 and never really looked back. The second year stud led the Niners to the Super Bowl, where they eventually lost, but he played some of his best ball last season in the playoffs.
Now, Kaepernick has a chance to emerge as a top five fantasy football quarterback with a season under his belt. He has top notch arm strength and can stretch the field, and he also is faster than most running backs in the league. He is a very gifted athlete who can hurt you in a variety of ways, and right now, I’d say he’s a solid 2nd round option. He came in at 7th in our initial quarterback rankings, so he should definitely go within the top 20 picks of your 2013 draft.
Backup options are Colt McCoy, Scott Tolzien, and B.J. Daniels, but none of those guys warrant drafting. You can keep an eye on McCoy if Kaepernick misses time at all this season.
