2. Second round, 40th overall: Tank Carradine, DE/OLB, Florida State

I was shocked Carradine made it out of the first round, even with a knee injury that derailed his final season at Florida State. He only has one year of starting experience under his belt, and now a major knee injury, but Carradine is a guy who many were talking about as a top 15 talent prior to his injury, and there were rumors the Giants wouldn’t be passing on him if he got to the 19th pick overall. I had him ranked 27th on my final big board, but I think he addresses an area of weakness for the Niners. They don’t have any pass rush depth outside of Aldon Smith, and I think Carradine provides that. He has great size and speed for a rush linebacker, and the 49ers were obviously comfortable enough with his athletic ability that they drafted him as a potential hybrid linebacker in their scheme. I think this is a great value pickup for a team in need of pass rushers.
