In case you missed it while watching the Rams-Cardinals game last night, just a couple channels over was number 13 USC taking on the Utes of Utah, a game that featured some of the NFL Draft’s top prospects.
Specifically, this game featured potential number one overall pick Matt Barkley and a fellow potential top pick in Utah defensive tackle Star Lotuleilei. The 6’4″ 320 pound defensive tackle has been outstanding so far this season, living up to the huge hype he created for himself last season. He has 22 tackles and five tackles for loss through the team’s first five games.
Last night, Lotuleilei had three tackles and a tackle for loss in Utah’s loss to the Trojans.
Even more impressive was Matt Barkley, who completed 23 of his 30 passes for three touchdowns and 303 yards getting the ball out to his top targets Robert Woods and Marqise Hill on 18 of those throws.
Barkley was surgical, and threw touchdown passes to each Hill and Woods, but it was Hill who stole the show. The sophomore receiver caught 12 passes for 192 yards and a score, the second time this season he has had over 190 yards receiving. He is on pace to have a huge year with 52 receptions and 649 yards through five games.
