Dolphins Trade Vontae Davis to Colts For Second Round Pick

According to separate reports from Jay Glazer of FOX Sports and Pro Football Talk, the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts have agreed up0n a trade that will send former first round pick and starting cornerback Vontae Davis to Indy. The Colts are sending a second round pick and a conditional sixth round pick to the Dolphins.

According to reports, the Dolphins’ new coaching staff was not getting along well with Davis, and vice versa. This is the second trade at the position the Colts have made. Earlier this offseason, they traded fullback Chris Gronkowski to the Denver Broncos for cornerback Cassius Vaughn.

Obviously the Colts have needs on the defensive side of the ball, specifically in the defensive backfield. They gave up a lot for a guy who hasn’t quite lived up to his first round potential, but he had a good season last year despite missing four games. He will be a key piece of the Colts’ defense this season.

This is also good news for the Dolphins, because both of the draft picks should be relatively high in each of the two rounds. They need the picks to continue to build around new quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who really has no talent round him at the receiver positions. This is a good trade for both sides.
