Madden 13 Receiver Rankings: The Top 10 Are Unveiled

facebooktwitterreddit

Madden 13 debut is just around the corner and in preparation for that day EASports is leaking some of the player rankings. The latest ratings to come out are the receivers. The Madden 13 team decided to lump Wide Receivers and tight ends together (for some reason), and three tight ends make the top 10.

10. Hakeem Nicks-94

Astutely the Madden 13 team has the best, but less flashy, Giants WR ranked the highest. Nicks is one of the best all around WR in the league, with good size, physical play, monster hands, and some run after the catch ability Nicks is able to consistently beat double teams to open up passing lanes for the Giants other WR like Victor Cruz.

9. Roddy White-94

Roddy White and Nicks are similar type player. White is more of a possession WR, though he can also make big plays as well. White is quietly one of the most productive WR in the league over the last three years averaging 100 catches a season and nearly 1300 yards over the last three years. White has also played in every Falcons game his entire career.

8. Wes Welker-95

Welker is one of the league’s best “chicken and egg question”. Does Tom Brady make Welker what he is, or does Welker’s ability to create instant separation keep Brady at the top of his game? I’m definitely in favor of the Tom Brady argument (as I think most people are). I do not think Welker on his own is a top 10 WR, though he’s clearly one of the league’s best slot WR.

7. Steve Smith-95

A rejuvenated Smith is a dangerous player as last year’s huge offensive explosion can attest to. Despite his size, Smith is able to beat double teams and make big plays. He averaged a whopping 17.6 yards per reception last year with 79 receptions. Big time talent.

6. Jimmy Graham-95

Jimmy Graham is the most athletic tight end in the league this side of Vernon Davis. While he’s still refining techniques in his game when it comes to blocking. He’s very dangerous and is a terrific security blanket for Drew Brees.

5. Vernon Davis-95

I’m surprised Davis is ranked so high even though he had a pretty good last year with average quarterback play.

4. Andre Johnson-97

I think this is appropriate. There is nothing on the football field Johnson can’t do except play 16 games consistently. Johnson is big, strong, fast and has good hands. If Johnson and Fitzgerald had comparable QB play they would put up comparable numbers.

3. Larry Fitzgerald-97

Fitzgerald’s strength is in his body control and discipline. A technician who probably has the best hands in all of football. Really good player and seems like a great guy. I think this is a solid ranking as well.

2. Rob Gronkoswki-97

The league’s second best red-zone threat is one of Madden’s highest rated players. “The Gronk” is a great blocking tight end too. He doesn’t really exemplify the Patriots way with all of his off the field distractions, but on the field he helps make this offense go.

1. Calvin Johnson 99

One of the world’s most freakish athletic marvels, Johnson can single handily win games. What a terrific player he is.

I think the Madden 13 team did a good job here. I’m not the biggest Welker fan though I recognize his importance to his team, I’m not convinced he’s a top 10 receiver overall. He has some major deficiencies in his game. I’d also would have had Vernon Davis lower. Also it’s not out of the real of possibility that Julio Jones will surpass White by the end of the year.
