Former Florida Gator’s Safety and UDFA, Will Hill, Impressing with New York Giants

Former Gator’s safety Will Hill went undrafted after the 2011 N.F.L. Draft after being projected as a potential day two pick and seemingly disappeared into the ether only to emerge this past off-season with the New York Giants. Hill was signed by the New York Giants prior to mini camp’s this year and from all reports has been impressing with the New York Giants. It’s not often a guy goes undrafted, doesn’t get a sniff of a roster spot one year only to make the 53 man roster the next, but that appears to be what’s happening with Hill this year. It’s a bit premature to slot him for the 53 man roster, but with the free agent departure of Deon Grant and the looming four game suspension coming from NFL for Tyler Sash, Hill might have the inside track on a starting safety spot.

Coach Coughlin has said about Hill, “He’s definitely had a couple of days where he’s stood out and he stands out on (special) teams, too.” Hill credits his improvement and maturing to “the dark times”. The Giants have two players slotted as starters with Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips, but the 3rd and 4th safety positions are up for grabs. Tyler Sash seems a lock for one, but with competition like Stevie Brown, Chris Horton, and JoJo Nicholes, this once former standout, but nearly forgotten, safety could be donning a N.F.L. uniform come September.
