Rookie Scouting Portfolio: Writer’s Project Team

This was fun, and is just a rough draft. What do you think so far. I knew that I wanted to get a terrific quarterback and that I also thought it would be best to pair him with his wide receiver just for chemistry sake if it made sense. Aaron Rodgers cost 20 million and the three million more it would have cost me for him was too much for me. I really considered Brees at 18 million. Brees, Brady, and Eli have shown they are very durable and good players. I just went with Manning over Brees because I know Manning can succeed in any environment and I question that a bit more with Brees. Manning over Brady because of age and he was slightly cheaper.

My best value player are Arthur Moats (.5)–a player I think can make some big plays in the right situation. I also think Tony Gonzlez for 3 million is great. I’m also of the belief that Greg Little is poised for a big year so I thought he was undervalued as well.

Areas of strength:

I think safety is a vital position in today’s N.F.L. and Berry and Thomas would be an absolutely fantastic combination at safety. I was thinking about going with Reed or Polamalu to pair with Thomas to have a great ball hawking duo, but age and injury concerns led me to Berry/Thomas combination. Safeties have to be able to play the run and pass equally as well in today’s N.F.L. and to me a franchise safety is one of the hardest positions in the league to fill there just aren’t that many of them.

I like my defensive line as well. Peppers is terrific and Mincey is just a very good solid player. Alualu and Brockers should really clean up in the run game, because my linebackers aren’t going to do that.

Areas of weakness:

I have some serious depth issues and my offensive line just isn’t that great. In fact it’s at best average. My linebacker corps are just guys, but they all have a skill set and I have young intriguing talent.

Thoughts?

Put something together and let me know what you come up with. This isn’t my finished product, but a direction I’m considering as of todya.
