2012 NFL Draft: Potential Day Two Steals, Best Defensive Players Available After First Round

Defensive Line

1. Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

It’s a joke that he’s still on the board. One of the best defensive players in this entire draft, my 7th overall graded player. The guy may have had a lot around him at Alabama, but he’s an excellent player. He’s going to be a steal as an OLB/DE

2. Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

Worthy was a late first round grade for me. Guy with a lot of potential, and a guy who can potentially go very high on this second day. He has great quickness off the snap.

3. Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Big body and one of the best players on the defensive line in all of college football last season. Could have been a late first round pick and likely won’t have to wait long on day two to hear his name called unless he has some unknown injury issues.

Others: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson; Kendall Reyes, DT, UConn

Linebacker

1. Lavonte David, WLB, Nebraska

David has excellent speed and the ability to track down ball carriers all over the field. The tackling machine will be an excellent value on day two.

2. Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina

Speed, speed, and more speed. If he can get coached on technique, he has the potential to be a star. Reminds me of Thomas Howard a few years ago.

3. Bobby Wagner, LB, Utah State

Tackling machine who showed excellent athleticism at his pro day this offseason. Some team is going to fall in love or has already done so regarding Wagner, who could be a starting inside linebacker his first year in the league.

Cornerback/Safety

1. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Arguably the best cover corner in this draft falls because of character concerns off the field. Sad to see because Jenkins has elite talent. He could be a steal if he gets his head on straight.

2. Trumaine Johnson, CB/S, Montana

Guy who could potentially be considered a late first round graded player who has a ton of upside but is very raw. He could play corner or safety at the next level.

3. Brandon Boykin, CB/RS, Georgia

Another guy who was once considered a potential first round pick, and a guy who is dynamic with the ball in his hands. He will be a nice value somewhere here on day two.
