According to a study by ESPN’s NFC South blogger Pat Yasinkas, the Denver Broncos have only been able to retain 48.6 percent of their draft picks since 2008. That is the worst figure among all 32 NFL teams. Of the 37 players drafted by the Broncos over that span of time, 32 remain in the NFL yet only 17 are still in the Mile High City.
That is preposterous. The Broncos were arguably the worst team in the NFL in 2010, and this is a huge reason why. They are certainly improving, but their inability to hit on draft picks and keep players around is a little whacked to me.
With John Elway and John Fox now leading the charge, the Broncos are definitely heading in the right direction. However, the final Mike Shanahan draft and two Josh McDaniels drafts have nearly left this franchise in ruins.
Thank goodness for Peyton Manning.
