Buffalo Bills Looking to Make Big Splash In Free Agency

Last week I wrote about the Buffalo Bills breaking the mold of their franchise and going out and getting something down for a big time stud. I wrote that they should make Mario Williams option number 1, 1A, 1B, 2. You get the point. The Buffalo Bills have not had an impact defensive end in a very, very long time. They are also in a division with the best quarterback in football, which could soon see the second best quarterback in football.

Well tonight the Bills are meeting with Houston Texans Defensive End Mario Williams. The potential addition of Williams has to get the fan base excited. The Bills are often considered a shrewd franchise that looks to pinch pennies anywhere they can, but they probably get a bad rap. The problem with the Bills seems to be more bad contracts than an unwillingness to spend.

On the field Mario Williams is the one player who can take this medicore defense to stardom. Adding Mario Williams to the defensive line would give the Bills three potential All-Pro type defensive linemen. Williams would join rising star Marcel Dareus and the terrific Kyle Williams. That’s a very difficult front three to handle, they could still even add another defensive end in the draft to give them one of the best front fours in all of football.

I think the Bills have a contingency plan if Williams doesn’t sign, but the fact that he’s meeting with the Bills first is a huge deal. Often players meet with the first team and sign with them if they get a big enough offer. It’s possible tonight we could be talking about a team that has added a player that could give them an opportunity to be in serious playoff contention all year.
