Could Mario Williams and Julius Peppers Team Up in Chicago

According to a report, the Chicago Bears are viewed as the favorite to land DE Mario Williams

The Bears will go into the hours leading to the start of free agency considered around the league to be the favorite in the competition to sign defensive end Mario Williams away from the Houston Texans, CSNChicago.com has learned from a number of NFL sources.

Adding Williams would give the Chicago Bears the most feared edge pass rush in the N.F.L. Yes the Giants and Eagles have terrific end presences and perhaps more depth at the pass rusher, but it’s arguable that Julius Peppers and Mario Williams are the two best defensive ends in all of football (despite the fact that Williams did not play DE last year). The Chicago Bears are currently 22.6 million dollars under the cap and can afford to add Williams and a good wide receiver perhaps a Mario Manningham. Or get younger at cornerback maybe even with a Brandon Carr. The Bears had a surprisingly good year last year especially before Jay Cutler and Matt Forte were injured.

The Bears have some issues, but also have major playmakers and a system that is conducive to winning. Adding Williams to an already plus defense will only go to further level the playing field between them and the potent offenses of the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. If the Bears were also able to reel in a good WR Free Agent or Michael Floyd in the draft they could also have a dangerous offense with how good Matt Forte is.

Things are looking up for the Bears in the 2012 season.
