#17 Cincinnati Bengals-Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama Crimson Tide

Terrific pick for the Bengals to get a powerful and athletic cornerback. A top 10 talent at 17th overall.

#18 San Diego Chargers-Michael Floyd, WR, Norte Dame

They are going to let Vincent Jackson hit free agency leaving them a little weak at WR. The Chargers have an aging Antonio Gates, they let Darren Sproles leave and now Vincent Jackson is leaving. They are doing a disservice to Philip Rivers. They need to get him another weapon here.

#19 Chicago Bears-Riley Reiff, T, Iowa

The Bears could try to move up for Michael Floyd (with the Eagles perhaps) and think they will  if he’s available in that range so I should have mocked that trade, but chose not to and they take a player I like as an OT, but some NFL people have moved to guards on their boards.

#20 Tennessee Titans-Nick Perry, DE, USC

Extremely athletic. I believe the Titans have three DE set to hit the free agent market and on top of that didn’t rush the passer enough last year anyway. With Kenny Britt coming back they have a lot of offensive weapons so this pick is worth it.

#21 Cincinnati Bengals-Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia

Absolutely ideal draft for the Bengals to land Kirkpatrick and Cordy Glenn. Can’t get better than that. Glenn showed so well at the combine he’s likely to go higher though.

#22  St. Louis Rams- (Via Cleveland Browns)-Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

If Wright was the top WR on your board prior to the combine (as it was reported he was on more than a few teams’ boards) then he should be the pick. Wright has been between 30 and 51 on our board the whole time (31 right now) so I finally feel justified for that! He is a good player who plays faster than he times, but he’s short and he’s not DeSean Jackson fast. A fringe first rounder. Rams reach a bit here though.

#23 Detroit Lions-Mike Adams, T, Ohio State

Positional value and pure talent could get Adams drafted much higher, if falls here though and gets scooped up by the Lions. He’s talented, but inconsistent. Still, a top 25 player for me.

#24 Pittsburgh Steelers-Devon Still, DL, Penn State

The Steelers I think will go defense here. In this case Still offers the most value.

#25 Denver Broncos-Zach Brown, LB, UNC

I think the Broncos want to go DT if they can and the value is present, but in this scenario it is not. Instead they take the speedy and rangy Zach Brown to pair with Von Miller. Miller can play the strong side and Brown can play the weakside. On passing downs Brown can run and cover while Miller makes the quarterback run for cover.

#26 Houston Texans-Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

This is an over-reaction pick. Not one I think happens. But you know how combine rumors go and all. Hill at the very least as put himself in the conversation with players like Kendall Wright, Alshon Jefferey, Mohamed Sanu, Rueben Randle to be drafted third after Blackmon and Floyd.

#27 New England Patriots-Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

With Jerod Mayo’s versatility the Patriots can draft Kuechly and can play him as MLB. Plus I just want to get this poor guy drafted after a stellar combine. He’s likely to go much higher than this.

#28 Green Bay Packers- Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama Crimson Tide

Hightower is a big thumper who is perfect in a 34 defense. The Packers need to upgrade their defense in a variety of different ways. Their poor defensive play cost them a chance at repeating.

#29 Baltimore Ravens-Kelechi Osemele, OT, Iowa State

The Ravens will be looking to add OL in the draft or free agency. David DeCastro is another option here, but he doesn’t offer tackle ability like Osmele does. Osmele has freakishly long arms and is athletic enough to play outside. WR is an option here as well.

#30 San Francisco 49ers-Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Barron is a player I like a lot and think he’d fit in well with 49ers depending on who leaves during free agency. Barron is available in this mock though and despite not being able to work-out at the combine maintains his first round grade for me.

#31 Trade* Miami Dolphins- Brock Osweiler, QB, Arizona State

Dolphins trade with the Patriots to select Brock Osweiler

I was going to move the Redskins up here, but figured that they addressed QB in free agency. This might be a little out of left-field but it’s possible someone moves back into the first round to take Osweiler who has tremendous upside. I picked the Dolphins because they can get away with

#32 New York Giants-David DeCastro, G, Stanford Cardinal

I had absolutely no intention of DeCastro falling this far and find it unlikely he does so I was just wrapped up in trying to get out the rumors that I got from the combine and the different type of trade possibilities that were out there that DeCastro slipped through the cracks. It’s much more likely a player higher up (like Stephen Hill specifically) isn’t drafted before this point and the Giants have to go in a different direction.

However there is at least one writer who thinks that it’s possible DeCastro might not go in the first round according to NFL personnel men

As one personnel director said, “Not so fast when it comes to taking a pure guard in the first round.” Consider that no more than four pure guards have been selected in the first round since 2000, and the average spot those were guards taken was in the second half of the round.
