Report: Several Teams Looking to Trade Up With the St. Louis Rams

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter has a bit of juicy news out of the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, and we haven’t even barely gotten underway:

“Multiple teams already have had preliminary discussions with St. Louis about the possibility of trading for the Rams’ second overall pick, according to league sources,” Schefter reports.

ESPN Insider reports that the teams looking to trade up are the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, and Seattle Seahawks.

I’m not sure I see the Rams trading down all the way to the Seattle pick, simply because they would be sacrificing too much value and potentially not getting enough in return. I don’t really buy the Dolphins either, because Miami would be a great fit for Peyton Manning (has a Miami home), Matt Flynn (new head coach is former GB offensive coordinator Joe Philbin), and Ryan Tannehill (former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman now on Dolphins staff).

The Redskins–as usual–will be the hardest competition to deal with. They are always willing to give up whatever it takes even if it means getting rid of all their picks or money. I think Robert Griffin III, who is obviously the target here, would be a better fit for Washington than Cleveland, but the Browns have two first round picks this year, and you have to assume they’ll pick pretty high in 2013 if future picks are included.

I am of the opinion that the Browns should use their picks on other positions and stick with Colt McCoy, but I’m not so sure that’s the official case here. I think the Browns could be aggressive in their pursuit of RG3, and could potentially offer two first round picks, which would be ridiculous in my opinion, but potentially a great trade for the Rams.

This talk will obviously heat up over the next couple of months, so stay tuned, because this is just a preview.
