Miami Dolphins off Season Check List

2011 Outcome            (6-10)

The Dolphins had one of their typical years under Sparano….playing tough and down to the wire in most game but failing to win most of them.  Finally, Stephen Ross had enough and pulled the plug on Sparano and company.  The Dolphins have a solid roster that has a dominant defense and only needs to improve the OL and acquire a QB.  The Dolphins will be very aggressive in trying to trade up for Robert Griffin prior to the draft.

Coach Seat Temperature

Sparano was too vanilla for the city ofMiami.  Stephen Ross would be wise to get an exciting coach who can help with dwindling ticket sales. It appears that coach will be Jeff Fischer.  Jeff Fisher is as stable as they come and if not for the Vince Young debacle might still be with the Titans.  I feel bad for Todd Bowles who deserved a chance to be their HC but too closely resembled Sparano.  DCMikeNolan should be retained or else he will be a highly sought after DC.

2011 Draft Class Rating        (C)

This class brought in some solid players but no real difference makers. MikePouncey has the making of aProBowlCenter.  Daniel Thomas is a nice complement to Reggie Bush in the run game.  Gates and Clay can help out at times in the passing game.  So all in all a vanilla class that did not hurt nor help the Dolphins much.

2010 Draft Class Rating        (C)

Another average class that was the trademark of the Sparano era.  Jared Olderick is turning into a very solid 5 technique.  Koa Misi would be better suited at ILB since he lacks elite speed and moves to rush the opposing Quarterbacks.  John Jerry has the ability to become a solid OG but has failed to capitalize on this so far.  The rest of the class is filled with depth and Special Teams players.

2009 Draft Class Rating        (C+)

This class brought in some solid players but missed on far too many of them.  Vonta Davis appears to be a shut down CB.  Sean Smith is a very sound starting CB on the other side.  Pat White and Patrick Turner were cut very soon into their Dolphins career.  The rest are marginal players at best.

Current Needs

Offense: QB, WR, TE, RT, OG

Defense: OLB, SS, FS

Current FA

Anthony Fasano: While Fasano is only an average starting TE he is a rock solid backup.  His blocking and red zone skills are nice to have on any offense.

Kendall Langford:  Langford is a solid depth player on the defensive line who plays the run well and can offer some pass rush.

Paul Soliai:  The Dolphins can no longer franchise this young, dominant NT.  Teams from all around the NFL playing a 3-4 defense will try and acquire his services.  Dolphins might not be able to afford him.

2. Dwayne Allen                       TE                    Clemson
