Military Bowl Preview: Air Force Falcons vs. Toledo Rockets

The Military Bowl is one that features two of the highest powered offensive attacks this season, both very different in the way they play. Toledo is a high-powered passing attack while Air Force employs the triple option, and both are very productive in what they do.

I fully expect this to be an offensive battle, and the clear best player as far as the NFL goes in this game is Toledo wide receiver Eric Page, who is a junior this year and by all accounts not likely to declare. He has 112 receptions this season for 1,123 yards and 10 touchdowns, his third straight season with over 1,000 yards through the air.

Toledo has another interesting playmaker in running back Adonis Thomas, who is approaching 1,000 yards this season and has averaged over six yards per carry each of the last two seasons. He has a career high 11 touchdowns in 2011 and is impressing NFL scouts with his playmaking ability. He is a late-round prospect at this point, but a big game and a fast 40 time this offseason could really vault his stock.

On the other side of things, I’m really interested to see how Air Force does with their triple option against a quick-strike passing attack, and they are led offensively by Tim Jefferson Jr., Asher Clark, and fullback Mike DeWitt.

Jefferson is tied with DeWitt for the team lead with 10 touchdowns, but the player I’m most interested to see is running back Asher Clark, who has 1,096 yards and is averaging over seven yards per carry. His ability to move the ball down the field and make plays has helped the Falcons score nearly 35 points per game this season.

You can check this game out on ESPN at 4:30 PM ET.
