Pros:
Very athletic…Great size….big, strong, arm…has improved his game from last year which is a good sign…can really run in the open field…throws a pretty good deep ball
Cons:
Doesn’t go through his progressions….wildly inconsistent with his accuracy…doesn’t make the best decisions on a consistent basis…doesn’t throw wide receivers open…needs to improve his mechanics it could not only be quicker, but he needs to better maintain his balance
Projected Round:
6th
His upside is too large for him to go undrafted
Thoughts:
Jefferson is a big strong athlete who plays quarterback for the LSU Tigers. Right now he’s not a quarterback at the N.F.L. level, he’s more developmental, but we’ve seen a lot of teams use big wildcat like pacakges where a guy lines up and you know he’s going to run it (11 on 11 football) and Jefferson could definitely come in and contribute to that part of the game right away. The problem for Jefferson is that he doesn’t have great timing with his passes and he doesn’t do an exceptional job throwing WR open, but he has the arm to make a lot of the big time N.F.L. throws. I’m not counting him out yet as a QB in the N.F.L. but he’s definitely a developmental guy
NFl Mocks preseason Bio:
Jefferson is a guy who is known for his ability to make plays on the ground, and right now he is a “tweener” to me. He will get drafted because of his size and athletic ability, but will it be at quarterback? He has not made any progress in terms of his accuracy, and over the last two years has thrown just 24 touchdown passes compared to 17 interceptions, including only seven touchdown throws last year. Where Jefferson makes his mark is as a runner, where he had seven rushing touchdowns last year. According to LSU’s official athletic site, this will be the first time under offensive coordinator Gary Crowton that a starting quarterback has returned the next year. There is no doubting that Jefferson is capable of making every NFL throw, but is he capable of doing it on a consistent basis, and will he be willing to try out different positions at the next level? His senior season will show us a lot about where he is headed, but for now, he is an exciting player who is going to help LSU win football games.
