Trading Peyton Manning is the Right Move
By Editorial Staff
Peyton Manning will go down as one of the all time great leaders and Quarterbacks in NFL history. Manning is the face of the Colts franchise and trading him might not be the most popular move or the easiest moves but it is the right one. Whether the Colts want to admit it they are in a rebuilding mode. Their weapons are old and not as plentiful as they once were. Their OL is in a rebuilding mode with Saturday and Diem nearing the end and Ijalana and Costanzo starting their careers. The defense is a mess with only a handful of decent young players. Manning will not make them contenders by staying. He might help them out more by leaving. With the Colts selecting Andrew Luck they would be set at QB. By trading Manning they can obtain multiple picks in the first 3 rounds. There is a market for Manning; it exists in the teams who are a player away from a Super Bowl and are not in the mood to wait. I am talking about the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers. These teams all have good defenses with a sound run game…they lack a consistent pass attack. So what would it take to get Manning? That is the question. I think it will come down to a 1st and 3rd Round selection this year and another pick next year. With the Colts having another 1st round pick, an early 2nd Round pick, and two third round selections they can significantly lower the amount of years for a turnaround and give Luck a chance to succeed. If they have an early 20 selection a player like Michael Floyd can be their selection and replace Reggie Wayne. Round 2 they can get Michael Brewster to replace Jeff Saturday at center. Round 3 the Colts can select Danny Trevethan and Melvin Ingram to improve the defense. It all comes down to making these tough decisions that many will not understand at the moment but cherish down the road. Bill Polian owes it to his team, his fans, Andrew Luck, and most importantly to Peyton Manning so that he can get another opportunity for a Super Bowl Ring.
