Ben Jones Scouting Report Center Georgia Bulldogs
This is our Ben Jones scouting report. Jones is a good center prospect who should be drafted by the end of day two. For all of our other scouting reports go to our scouting report page
Measurables:
6’2 303 pounds, 32.5 inch arms, 9 5/8 inch hands
5.44 forty yard dash, 29 bench press reps, 30.5 inch vertical, 105 inch broad jump, 7.95 3 cone drill, 4.74 so yard shuttle
Pros:
Good size…does a good job with his shut-gun snaps…quick off the snap…very durable, hasn’t missed any times due to injuries…considered a leader of the Georgia offensive line and has a lot of experience..gets his man to the ground a surprising amount of times (pancakes)…does an okay job blocking in space
Cons:
I”m being nit-picky here. I think he looks better than he did last year when he was pretty good and there aren’t any huge holes in his game from the games I’ve seen he probably has a lower ceiling than guys like the Pouncey brothers, but he’s a really solid prospect. But some things to keep in mind…Could continue to improve his leverage…Gets a little grabby..more of an anchor and mirror guy than a bullzoder…I think he can also do a better job of blocking the first guy and getting to the second level..some consider Jones as more of a guard prospect, but I disagree….needs to improve his footwork
Round Projection:
2nd to 3rd
Looks like he should go mid 2nd round
Thoughts:
I’ve been impressed when I’ve watched Ben Jones. He’s a smart versatile offensive linemen who uses everything he has to control the middle of the offensive line. He has a lot of pancakes and does a pretty good job in space. He isn’t as strong as his frame would suggest but he still does a real good job of anchoring, I think in the N.F.L. some of those big Nose Tackles might give him some big problems. Jones snaps the ball cleanly and gets into his stance quickly. A real quality center prospect. Terrific motor.
NFL mocks preseason Bio:
Not a flashy offensive line prospect by any means, but rock solid and one of the best interior line prospects in the senior class of 2012. Very productive in his career at Georgia, opening holes for some of the best runners in the country. Was named 2nd team All SEC in 2009 and 4th team All SEC in 2010. Finalist for the Outland Trophy in 2010, and a second team All SEC selection according to Athlon Sports. Jones is one of the leaders on the offensive line, and has started 35 games in his career.
