Oklahoma State and Oklahoma State Cowboys Draft Watch

When the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys tomorrow there is going to be a lot on the line for both teams, but also for the draft prospects involved in the game. Lets’ take a look at the draft worthy matchups in this game.

Our scouting reports for all of these players (except Martin who will be posted tomorrow) are on our scouting report page (as well as more than  a 150 others)

Frank Alexander/Ronnell Lewis and Levy Addock

The Sooners have a couple of pass rushes who are looking to make their mark in one of the final games before they become eligible for the draft. Lewis is a really promising and developing pass rusher and it will be interesting to see if he can use his speed and explosiveness to get around the very large and strong Levy Addock. Frank Alexander on the other hand isn’t a special athlete and he could be challenged.

Jemell Flemming Cornerback Oklahoma

Flemming is a prospect I haven’t paid enough attention to this year, but is generally projected to go in round 3 or four. Flemming is taking on more responsibility this year and a good game vs a potent offense like the Sooners could convince teams he can be a starter in the N.F.L. This is our preseason look at him:

Productive two year special teams player for the Sooners, which will be extremely valuable going to the NFL level. 27 special teams tackles over the last two seasons are the best on the team. Had an excellent junior season where he intercepted five passes to go along with 71 tackles and a sack. Really emerged as a cover corner in 2010 and should continue to improve. Not the fastest cornerback or the most imposing physical specimen, but should be a starter in the NFL.

From what I’ve seen of him he’s more technically sound and solid all around than he is dynamic or a special athlete.Last year Flemming did a good job of taking the ball away (5 INT) this year he only has one.

Markelle Martin S Oklahoma State

Martin is the best defensive prospect for the Cowboys and I’m excited to watch him against this powerful offense. Martin is a good athlete and can intimidate the middle of the field, but Martin hasn’t been a great tackler. The Sooners throw a lot balls in space and it’ll be important for Martin to make the tackle. Martin is also battling with players like Robert Lester, Mark Barron, T.J. McDonald to be the first safety taking in the draft and could use a huge close to the end of the season.

Travis Lewis, Oklahoma Sooners

Perhaps no player in this game needs a bigger showing than The linebacker for the Oklahoma Sooners. A potential first round pick had he declared a year ago Lewis has had his worst season as a Sooner. His numbers are down across the board and questions have arised about whether or not he’s a diva in the locker room (I don’t have any useful insight into that area) so his draft stock is quietly lingering in the second round, but it’s possible it could go lower. Lewis hasn’t had a tackle for loss since the middle of October and only has one game with 10 or more tackles this year. Lewis is still talented, but he needs to finish this season strong.

Other names to know: Landry Jones, Justin Blackmon, and Brandon Weeden (obviously).

Lesser names to know on Oklahoma James Hanna Te, Stephen Good OL (questionable), Jarvis Jones OL
