Sr. Center Alabama
Measurables

6’1” 300lbs
(combine numbers will be posted when they are available)
Vlachos has started 35 straight games. A favorite to win the Remington Award for nations top Center. Vocal leader on and off the field,
Exceptional character, cerebral player, intelligent and respected by teammates. Vlachos makes all the calls on the line and has done an
exceptional job even through changing O-line coaches this year.  Considered one of the strongest players on the team.

PROS:
Vlachos is a student of the game and he has great work ethic in the film room and on the field. Low base/pad level, able to get under
defenders and gains leverage quickly. Snaps the ball and gets hands on the defender quickly in one motion. As technically sound as any center
in the game and remains very coachable. . High character, no off field issues, plays smart and his intelligence makes up for his lack of height. Draws praise and respect from coaches and teammates.

CONS:
Lacks height so taller QB’s may have trouble getting the snap under center. He has short arms and doesn’t excel in space. Had foot surgery
but never missed a start or had any issues with mobility as a result but it could be a concern for a few teams. He struggled a bit in 2010
blocking in space/second level and he has made significant improvement though it is an issue at times.

Summary:

William Vlachos is as hard a worker and student of the game as you will fund in the game. Teams that covet intangibles will love this
player. He is as technically sound a center as there is and is a tireless worker. He won’t stand out in the “eye test” but what he
lacks in height and athleticism he makes up for is his sound play. Vlachos is a cerebral player, plays heads up and has a high football
IQ. He gets his hands on defenders and gains leverage very quickly and uses his low pad level to his advantage.
If he slides into the first round it will be his intangibles that the team covets and the system they run will be a good fit but expect mid
to late second round selection.
Player Comparison; Jeff Saturday Indianapolis,

Saturday is an undersized center as well and Vlachos is very similar in size and playing style. Saturday is described as a coach on the field and
Vlachos holds striking similarities in the role he has played for Alabama. He could develop into this type NFL player fairly easy with a
similar offensive scheme.

NFLmocks Preseason Bio

Slightly undersized player, as the listed 6’2″ is probably a bit generous. However, when we talked to one of the best defensive linemen in the SEC (Ole Miss DL Jerrell Powe), he noted that Vlachos was the best offensive lineman he had ever played against .Vlachos is the clear leader of the Alabama offensive line, and is the guy up front making all the calls. If he was bigger, he’d likely be a first round pick. This guy is a technician, and does his job better than most in the country. With another year under his belt, this is a guy who could sneak into the 2nd round conversation by seasons end, and should be a starter in the NFL for a long, long time.
