Scouting Report (pre-season)

Hyde has a ton of improving to do, but the potential is certainly there. It’s a bit of a stretch to put him as a cornerback in my rankings, as that might not be his NFL position (moving to safety in 2011) but he played corner the last two years at Iowa and just might do it again this year. He’s a big cornerback who is obviously very well versed in a Tampa 2 zone scheme, where he is allowed to play well off the ball and utilize his tackling ability. His coverage skills are definitely developing, and they will improve greatly as his football IQ increases. He could stand to add some weight and has the frame to do it, and you might just see him back in Iowa City for a senior season if the trial run as a safety is a success in year one.

I would like to add to this that Hyde has made great strides in 2011 thus far. He has 49 tackles and three interceptions to this point and has really built off of a great finish to the 2010 season. He has improved not just as a tackler, but more importantly in coverage after the Iowa coaching staff flirted with playing him at safety. He has great ball skills and now doubles as the Iowa punt return specialist.

PROS: Length, playmaking ability, versatility (can play corner/safety), punt return capabilities, zone coverage skills, tackling ability, can contribute on special teams right away, competitive.

CONS: Still raw as corner, could stand to add some weight, will he get burned too much at the NFL level?, is he always feast or famine?
