Oklahoma Sooners WR Ryan Broyles Out for Season With Torn ACL

by NFL Draft

“He’s such a special, special player,” coach Bob Stoops said. “It’s deflating for him and for all of us. … Your heart drops when you first hear it.”

That was Oklahoma Sooners coach Bob Stoops reacting to the loss of All-American wide receiver Ryan Broyles, who will miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL suffered against Texas A&M.

Broyles had 83 receptions, 1,157 yards, and 10 touchdowns this season and was less than 500 receiving yards away from breaking the all-time FBS career record in that category. He was one of the best wide receivers in college football history, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt for the Oklahoma Sooners.

As far as the draft, coaches and scouts know exactly what he is capable of but this injury will drive his stock down simply because it will take a while to heal and has a chance to repeat in his career. He should wind up being a steal similar to how the Broncos stole Eric Decker in the third round in 2010.
