NFLmocks preseason bio

After redshirting in 2008, Konz came on in impressive fashion as a RS Freshman in 2009 and was named a first team freshman All American performer. Started 20 of 21 games for the Badgers, and could easily return for a redshirt senior season next year if he feels it’s necessary. Will likely graduate by the end of this year, so playing for a national title is really the only thing he has left to come back for. Will be in contention for the Rimington trophy in 2011, and could simply win it outright. Something that also seems to be the theme here is that these Wisconsin linemen are very smart. Konz is another Academic All Big Ten performer in the classroom. Brett Bielema is running an NFL offensive lineman factory in Madison.

Summary:

It is  unlikely Peter Konz will come out for the 2012 NFL draft.  Wisconsin OL prospects rarely do.  However, just like with JJ Watt, Konz might just get too high of a draft grade to turn the opportunity down.  He is a rare breed of force and intelligence.  He will be one of the best run blocking interior OL in the league by his second year.  One might think that playing for Wisconsin he is susceptible in pass coverage….they would be wrong.  This year Wisconsin has opened up their offense and Konz has yet to allow a sack.  He will get a true challenge this weekend versus Jerel Worthy.  My only concern is that playing for Wisconsin he is filled with NFL talent that allows him to be this dominating…however, I will stick to the eye test.  If he comes out he will be in the top half of the draft and go to a team like: Titans, Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Eagles, or Bears.
