The wait for former Iowa Hawkeyes wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos to play professional football is finally over.
One of my favorite wide receiver prospects this past season and a very solid return specialist has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. The Alouettes have locked up a playoff spot and are in first place in the East division. They also have the best record in the league, and boast one of the best quarterbacks in CFL history–Anthony Calvillo, a guy who has been in the CFL for 18 years.
DJK’s role on the team is yet to be determined, but it’s just good to know that someone gave him a chance, and hopefully this can open up more opportunities for him down the road. For now, he has to focus on being a great player for Montreal and show scouts that he is still capable of making big plays like he did so often at Iowa with the Hawkeyes.
DJK vows to make Hawkeye fans proud both on and off the field, and I can’t wait to see him get back to doing what he does best.
