The Clemson Tigers were able to squeak out a victory vs the Maryland Terrapins despite fielding higher quality N.F.L. prospects on both sides of the ball thanks in large part to a huge performance by freshman sensation Sammy Watkins, the #1 WR recruit in the nation had a huge performance.

Watkins had a 105 yards receiving, 33 yards rushing, a 89 yard kick off return for a touchdown (and 207 total return yards) in route to racking up 345 all purpose yards breaking C.J. Spiller’s school record. The true freshman is perhaps the best freshman in all of college Football. How good was Sammy Watkins tonight, when Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about the victory he replied “we had Sammy Watkins”.

Also impressive was Tajh Boyd, the Clemson quarteback, has thrown for 1742 yards this season with 15 TD and 2 INT.

Junior Andre Ellington iced the game with a long touchdown run and ended the game with 212 yards rushing (at 8.8 yards per carry) with two touchdowns.

Dwayne Allen staked his claim as the best TE in the 2012 N.F.L. draft with another solid game of 5 receptions for 41 yards and really helped the Tigers control the middle of the field.

The Teripans were able to use a faced pace offense to wear down the Tigers and their superior talent and really played well until Watkins took over the game late. Maryland quarterback C.J Brown had 177 yards passing, but did most of his damage on the ground with a 162 yards rushing and a touchdown. Unfortunately, for Brown the TeripanTerrapins s defense and special teams weren’t able to hold a late 4 point lead.
