Emmy Winners…for week two of the N.F.L. Season

facebooktwitterreddit

In honor of the emmy’s being last night I thought I’d give you a breakdown of the emmy winners so far of the N.F.L. season.

Best Supporting Actor Comedy Series

Todd Haley, Kansas City Chiefs

The way the Chiefs have played this season has been nothing short of a top notch comedy. Nary have I seen such terrible play. The Chiefs have gotten absolutely blown out by the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. Two teams that have long been the laughing stocks of the league.

What does Todd Haley reply to this with ” as far as I know they haven’t canceled this season”. Bravo, Mr. Haley! Master piece.

Oh wait, you’re trying to win football games? Yikes. The Chiefs are in for a bad, bad year.

Best Actor Drama

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills

Ryan Fitzpatrick is seriously smart. He’s a Harvard man (the announcers of any Bills game won’t let you forget it), but on Sunday he was the best actor in the dramatic finish of the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders. The Bills have long been a team who puts up a valiant effort to come back only to end the game with a pat on the back, a “that a boy” thanks for trying, a cold shower and a long lonely drive home. But on Sunday, Fitzparick showed up big. There were big hits. Big plays. And a dramatic finish. The Bills have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs (awful) and the always inconsistent Oakland Raiders to start the season 2-0, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, but this is precisely the kind of game the Bills ALWAYS lose, but they came up big on Sunday. Thanks in large part to Ryan Fitzpatrick (Fred Jackson also had a big say in the game as well).

Best Director

Mike Munchak, Head Coach, Tennessee Titans

After week 1 Ravens fans booked tickets to the Superbowl. The Titans on the other hand looked to be in for a long season, but in week two the Tennessee Titans blew the door of the Baltimore Ravens (while Kenny Britt shined. He is So good. He, Maclin and Hakeem Nicks are the future of the N.F.L. and all were drafted in the first round of the 2009 N.F.L. draft). The Titans kept the dangerous Ray Rice to 3.3 yards per carry, and while Chris Johnson didn’t fare any better (2.2 yards per carry), the Titans were able to win the game big 26 to 13. There was also a huge “chutzpah” call on a fourth down where Munchak and the Titans called a pitch to Javon Ringer that went for a touchdown. Great game plan and work by the Titans on Sunday.

Best Mini-series or movie

Atlanta Falcons vs Philadelphia Eagles

You had the young guy replacing the legend in Michael Vick. You had Vick returning to his stomping grounds. The panicked fan base (the Falcons lost all four preseason games, two of their last three games last season, and their first game this season). You had bone crushing (illegal) hits, you had the “Dream Team” vs the disrespected Atlanta Falcons. You also had a big comeback from the Falcons and a huge drop by super-stud Jeremy Maclin that stopped the Eagles rally short. This game might not have been a competition though if Vick had stayed healthy. Any time Vick plays, regardless of your personal (or mine) attitude towards him, it’s going to be nominated for ‘best mini-series’. His gameplay style is irreplaceable.

Oh, if you’re wondering Vick is NOT ruled out for week three’s game vs the Giants, yet.

 Best Writing:

Bill Belichick’s writer: Post-game press conferences

I kid, I kid.

Rex Ryan: Post game press conferences

Like Vick regardless of your personal attitude towads Rex Ryan. The man is entertaining.
