Broncos Look to Have Elite Pass Rush With Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil

Say what you want about Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, and Brady Quinn–the Broncos and their fans really shouldn’t care at this point. After three pre-season games, the Broncos’ defense has shown flashes of dominance. Granted, they were playing the Cowboys, Bills, and Seahawks, but any improvement off of last season is going to get a Broncos fan pumped up.

Still, this doesn’t seem like a minimal improvement.

The Broncos knew they were going to be getting back a star in Elvis Dumervil, who missed all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle. What they didn’t know was that his absence would contribute greatly to one of the worst seasons in franchise history, resulting in the second overall pick in the draft.

That turned out to be quite a blessing for the Broncos, who believe they have a star in the making in pass rusher Von Miller, a former Texas A&M All-American.

The addition of Miller to Denver’s defense, along with the creative schematics of new coordinator Dennis Allen (Saints) have ignited a spark in the Denver defense that no one–not even those paying too much attention to Tebow–can ignore.

Denver’s “Orange Rush” has held fellow first team opponents to nine points in three games, and they are simply shutting opposing teams down. The worst fans have seen from them so far was a Dallas opening drive that Romo and company marched right down the field, but were held short and had to settle for three points.

Buffalo’s opening drive against Denver went for three points as well, but the Broncos held them to a three and out before Brad Smith took a fake punt for about three yards on 4th and 1, giving the Bills new life.

Thanks to Miller and Dumervil, the Broncos’ pass rushers have terrorized opposing offensive lines. They have no answer for these two guys, and that is going to significantly change the culture of this Denver team.
