Matthew Stafford Shines, has Lions up Big Heading Into the Fourth Quarter

We keep hearing about how good the Lions can be if Matthew Stafford can just stay healthy, and tonight we are seeing a glimpse of that as Matthew Stafford was nearly flawless in the first half of the Detroit Lions/New England Patriots game. Now, obviously we know that preseason doesn’t “mean anything” but the fact is in the third preseason game teams are trying their best to tune up for the regular season and in this tune up the Lions look great.
Matthew Stafford’s night was 12 passes for 14 attempts for 200 yards and two touchdowns. That’s an astonishing 14 yards per pass attempt. Stafford spread the ball around to six different players, only one of which went to Megatron.

Stafford is not the only Lions player impressing. Former Purdue defensive linemen and Detroit Lions breakout candidate, Cliff Avril has two sacks tonight. Avril already has 19 career sacks and if he has a breakout year like many Lions fans expect big things could happen for the Lions defense this year.

As for the Patriots they have to back to the drawing board in the Patriots secondary. The Secondary did not play well tonight, as Stafford lit them up and the Patriots also gave up passing touchdowns to both Drew Staton and Shaun Hill. The run defense was better. As the Lions are averaging under 4.0 yards per carry early in the fourth quarter.
