What Does Philadelphia Eagles Signing of Nnamdi Asomugha Mean for Antonio Cromartie?

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles have effectively established the best group of cornerbacks in the NFL by adding Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha to Asante Samuel, one has to wonder what the New York Jets are feeling after supposedly having interest in bringing Asomugha in themselves.

With the Jets losing out on the Asomugha sweepstakes and the Eagles firmly planting themselves among the NFC elite, what does it mean for fellow free agent cornerback Antonio Cromartie, most recently of the New York Jets?

Well, Cromartie’s options are still open, and it’s been reported that the Jets would still like to bring him back. For my money, New York is the best place for him. The Cowboys and 49ers are still in it for Cromartie, who had a very good year last year opposite Darrelle Revis in New York, and his return could keep one of the NFL’s best secondaries in-tact.

The signing of Asomugha in Philly was huge, but the re-signing of Cromartie in New York could be just as big for a team that really needs him back to keep continuity on the defensive side of the ball. If the Jets can bring back Cromartie, they are likely going to have to really pony up the dough, because he’s drawing serious interest around the league.
