For months, Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb was rumored to be traded to the Arizona Cardinals among other teams. Today, after 6 long months of speculation, that very move has finally occurred. ESPN insider John Clayton is reporting that the deal is done and that the Arizona Cardinals will trade pro bowl cornerback Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie and a 2nd round pick for quarterback Kevin Kolb. In addition to the trade, it is being reported that the Cardinals and Kolb have agreed to a 5 year extension worth 63 million dollars with over 20 million guaranteed.

This move is not a surprise as both sides have been working on this deal for a good 2 days. However, it is the opinion of this writer that this trade is a mistake for the Arizona Cardinals. Kevin Kolb is a very unproven quarterback and while he does have some upside, the price they paid is too much for a quarterback of Kevin Kolb’s caliber current caliber. Arizona loses one of their best defenders in Dominique Rodgers Cromartie and gives up a 2nd rounder which quite frankly I expect to be at the top of the 2nd round. On top of that, they gave Kolb a huge deal without even seeing him practice with the team.

Still, Arizona has made the move and has committed their future to Kevin Kolb. For his career, Kolb has completed 60 percent of his passes, 2,082 yards 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
