With the lockout set to end in the coming days, it appears Sidney Rice‘s time in Minnesota could be coming to an end as well.
The Vikings will be able to negotiate with Rice within the 72-hour “exclusive window” without any other teams interfering. Unless the Vikings wow the young wide receiver with an offer he cannot refuse, Rice will enter free agency with hopes of cashing in elsewhere.
Possible destinations? Chicago, Seattle, Washington, and San Diego have all been talked about as possible landing spots for the stud Pro Bowl wide receiver.
If the Bears were to act on the rumors and pursue Rice, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Vikings will raise their offer significantly to keep him out of The Windy City (See: Losing Chester Taylor to the Bears).
Earlier this off-season, Drew Rosenhaus had nothing but good news for the Vikings and their fans.
“It’s really going to take a very fine offer from another team to get him to leave [Minnesota] because he is fond of the Vikings. And we’re going to give the Vikings every opportunity [to re-sign Rice].”
He also added the unfortunate truth.
“But it is a business.”
Expect Sidney Rice to follow the money, and expect the money to come from Zygi Wilf‘s checkbook.
