Chris Ransom’s Top 10 Centers for 2012

Ohio State center Michael Brewster is considered the top center prospect in 2012.

1. Michael Brewster Center Ohio State Michael Brewster has all the tools as a center prospect to be a better center than either of the Pouncey brothers.  Brewster is one of the more complete players in this draft.  He is no doubt better at center than Mike Pouncey and may even be better than Maurkice Pouncey when it comes to upside and long term potential.  The team that drafts Brewster is landing a pro bowl center for the next decade.

Projected Round 1st Round

2. William Vlachos Center Alabama Vlachos has the elite blocking strength and durability that a center needs.  Vlachos lacks the size at center which is why Vlachos is a starter at best who won’t take that next step as a pro bowl center.

Projected Round 2nd Round

3. Ben Jones Center Georgia Ben Jones is a quality center with pro bowl ability.  Ben Jones has top notch blocking strength, durability, production, along with a very fast learning rate.  Scouts will knock Jones because he plays on an offensive line next to Cordy Glenn which is why he is being considered a 3rd round prospect.

Projected Round 3rd Round

4. Phillip Blake Center Baylor Blake is a mid round prospect from Baylor at center.  He isn’t as good as former Baylor offensive lineman like Jason Smith, JD Walton, or Danny Watkins.

Projected Round 4th Round

5. David Molk Center Michigan Besides the elite blocking strength and top notch production Molk does not offer much.  He has average durability along with mediocre intangibles from a mental standpoint.

Projected Round 5th Round

 6. Seth Oxner Center Arkansas Oxner has average durability, but excels in nearly every other department.  Oxner is a late round center prospect in the mold of a Matt Birk type center.

Projected Round 6th Round

7. Scott Wedige Center Northern Illinois Wedige has excellent durability and rarely gets injured.  The problem with Wedige is he has the skill set and potential of a backup center that is used for depth.

Projected Round 6th Round

8. Moe Petrus Center Connecticut Moe Petrus is a product of Connecticut’s run blocking offensive line with last years draft pick Zach Hurd and run blocking left tackle Mike Ryan.  Petrus has average run blocking ability and mediocre pass blocking ability.

Projected Round 6th Round

9. Ben Burkett Center Northwestern Ben Burkett has better durability than any center in this draft.  Burkett also has great physical blocking strength and elite production at center.  I’m not expecting Burkett to have a productive career.  I do expect Ben Burkett to be a late round pick in 2012.

Projected Round 7th Round

10. Ben Bojicic Center Bowling Green Ben Bojicic is a late round prospect who may not even make it out of training camp.  Expect Bojicic to go in round 7 if he even gets drafted.
