ESPN Blogger Bill Williamson Thinks the Denver Broncos are Favorites to Land RB DeAngelo Williams

In his recent mailbag segment, ESPN’s AFC West blogger and former Denver Post Broncos beat writer Bill Williamson says that depending on the new CBA, he expects the Broncos to be a favorite to land Carolina Panthers’ running back DeAngelo Williams:

I think it all depends on the on the new CBA. If he is a free agent, I could see it happening. In fact, I’d say Denver would be a favorite to land him. New Denver coach John Fox loved Williams and they have a good relationship. Plus, Denver would like to get another running back to pair with Knowshon Moreno. Fox is a believer in running the ball first. So, he’d be very comfortable working with Williams again.

This has been a rumored move ever since the Broncos hired John Fox as their head coach. The move makes sense for all parties involved, especially since the Broncos are in the market for a runner and Williams is probably not going to return to the Panthers. The problem with this is that Williams is 28 years old right now and has ended his last two seasons on injured reserve. Would it be financially responsible of the Broncos to bring him in?

Williams has not played a full season since 2008, and since then, he’s missed a whopping 13 games due to injuries, but when he’s healthy he is no doubt one of the best running backs in the league. If the Broncos can get him at a reasonable price, I wouldn’t be shocked to see this move go down. Knowshon Moreno has really had troubles with injuries in his first two years as a Bronco, and he needs someone who can give him some slack. The Broncos bring back LenDale White this year coming off of injury, and he showed in the pre-season that he could come in and get some tough yardage, but who knows whether or not he will be the same player after an Achilles injury.

Here is a Panthers homer on Yahoo! who doesn’t think this would be a responsible move (any move) for Williams.
