Tennessee Titans Draft Recap: Jimmy Morris

facebooktwitterreddit

Jimmy Morris is the editor of the Titans SB Nation Blog www.musiccitymiracles.com. I asked him some questions and here’s what he had to say.

1). What are the needs of the Titans after the draft?

On offense they still need a veteran quarterback and will look to add some depth at TE. On defense they might look to add a DE or a safety.

2). The Jake Locker pick: the right move for the franchise?

I think so. The kid is a hard worker, and he is going to be willing to put in the work it takes to be a successful NFL QB unlike Vince Young. They will have some work to do with him, but I think they can turn him into an accurate pocket passer.

3). What’s the best pick the Titans made?

I really like Jurrell Casey their third round pick from USC. They desperately needed size at DT, and Casey provides that. He is a
versatile player that could play nose tackle if the Titans end up transitioning to a 3-4.

(Editor’s Note: I agree. Though I also liked the Akeem Ayers pick as that’s good value for him there early in the second round. Usually teams that draft a QB early go WR/TE early in the draft as well, it’s interesting the Titans went defense with their two picks on day 2).

4). What’s the most questionable pick the Titans made?

Jamie Harper in the 4th round. I am never a fan of guys that don’t have good production in college. He was behind 2 good backs at Clemson and he ran well at the combine, but I am skeptical.>

5). What’s the pick made after the 4th round that has the best chance to contribute next year?

I  like Karl Klug from Iowa. He is a tweener defensive lineman but has a great motor. I would imagine they will stick him in the rotation at defensive end.

6). What pick from last year’s draft has the best chance of making an impact   this year?

Derrick Morgan. He missed most of the season last year with a torn ACL. He was playing really well before that, and I think he is going to have a really good year.

7). What’s your overall draft grade for the Titans draft?

I refuse to grade a class this soon, but I like what they did. They filled a lot of holes and got some good value picks.

8). How about the fans…how do they seem to feel about the draft?

When you take a QB in the top 10 it all depends on how he plays. Most people were surprised when Locker’s name was called, but the more they read and hear about him the more they like him.

9). With this current roster how many games do you think the Titans could   win next year?

I think they end the season with anywhere from 5 to 8 wins. They will get better as the season goes along.

10). Anything else to add about the Titans draft or 2011 N.F.L. Season?

I just hope we have a 2011 season, but on the Titans front, I am excited to see the post-Jeff Fisher/VY era.
